The Hawthorns Promise
Ten things you can hold us to.
- A family business, not a corporation. Deryck and Monika Wright bought Hawthorns in 1991 and still live here. Their son Ashley runs it today, with a small team who know every owner by name. There is no head office, no group and no shareholders wanting the biggest return this year. The people who make the decisions are the people you will meet on the park.
- Owners only, by design. No hire fleet, no subletting, no holiday lets. Every home on the park belongs to someone who chose to be here. As a small family-run park, our aim has always been to keep Hawthorns peaceful and quiet, and owners-only is how we do it. It is a decision, not a phase; do not expect it to change.
- No surprises on money. The site fee for the year is published on this website and sent to every owner in writing before the season starts. Everything it includes, and the few things it does not, are set out on one page in plain English. We would rather you saw the whole picture before you buy than found out afterwards.
- Everything in front of you before you commit. The sales contract, the licence agreement, the fees, the park rules and what happens when you sell: you see all of it, in plain terms, before you commit to anything, and we will go through it with you.
- No sales team, no pressure. Nobody at Hawthorns is paid commission to sell you a holiday home. Come and see the park, walk round, talk to the owners, and take your time. If Hawthorns is not right for you, we would rather you did not buy than bought the wrong thing.
- A fair way out. Plans change, and we understand that. When you decide to sell, we have the first option to buy your home at a fair market price, and in practice that is how owners leave Hawthorns: with a fair price, not with years of a licence still hanging over them. If we do not buy it, you can take it off the park, and we will put you in touch with independent trade contacts so you can check the valuation for yourself.
- Standards you can see. Five-star VisitEngland grading every year since 2002, and the VisitEngland Gold Award for eleven years running. The David Bellamy Conservation Award at Gold every year from 2002 until the scheme changed in 2021, and the Bellamy pledges that replaced it made and met every year since. Every single home on the park is green, so the park blends into the countryside instead of shouting at it; that took us the best part of twenty years to achieve, and we did it on purpose. The grounds are looked after by our own team every day of the season, and it shows.
- Owners who stay. Some of our owners have been at Hawthorns longer than we have, and several are now on their third holiday home here. People do not stay thirty years on a park that lets them down.
- A member of HARPA. Hawthorns is a member of HARPA, the Holiday and Residential Parks Association (formerly the BH&HPA), the industry body whose members commit to its standards of conduct. We follow its guidance in how we sell, how we write our agreements and how we run the park.
- People, not a call centre. Andy, the park manager, and Ashley, the owner, are here on the park. Ring 01524 732079 and one of us answers. Personal service and support from a small family business, before the sale and long after it, is what makes Hawthorns a place to come and relax.
