We regularly mention special events happening locally on our Blog or our Facebook page, but as well as that we like to keep our guests up to date on the many other fun things to do around the Park.

And as we know we’re not the only enthusiastic golfers locally, we thought we’d compile a directory of the local courses!

Golf Courses Half an Hour’s Drive Away or Less from the Park

Silverdale Golf Club Lying at the heart of the Arnside and Silverdale AONB, and adjacent to the Leighton Moss RSPB reserve, Silverdale Golf Club is set in a stunning location and has fabulous views over the surrounding countryside, across Morecambe Bay and towards the Cumbrian Howgill Fells. It is an easy and comfortable drive away from Hawthorns Park. It even hosts open competitions if you want to try it out before applying for membership!

The Grange-Over-Sands Golf Club is also popular and not much further away. Full members can even enjoy a free round of golf at three other clubs due to their Reciprocal Golf arrangement.

Lancaster Golf Club will impress even the most discerning visitor. The course, measuring 6512 yards with a par of 71, and designed by James Braid in 1932 (5 times open champion and Britain’s greatest course architect), provides a challenge to every golfer, especially the classic dogleg ninth, the demanding seventeenth known as ‘Braids Best’, and the daunting elevated tee to the final green.

Ashton Golf Centre is one of Lancaster’s friendliest golf courses and driving ranges that is open to the public. The course offers an informal and relaxed Pay and Play golf course for players of all abilities, creating a fabulous golfing experience for everyone. The greens are well drained, so even in the wettest summers they manage to keep the course open and playable.

Lansil Golf Course was bought by major local employer Lancaster Silk shortly after the Second World War. The course is a par 69 test of golf measuring 5,540 yards off the men’s white competition tees (SSS 67). The ladies’ course, also par 70, measures 4,872 yards (SSS 68).

What the course lacks in length it makes up for in the need for accuracy, both off the tee and in your approach shots. The threat of out-of-bounds comes into play on seven of the nine holes and many greens are raised with ground falling away sharply on one, two or even three sides.

Golf Courses Less Than an Hour’s Drive Away from the Park

The Morecambe Golf Club is close enough to have become another favourite. Have fun mastering another challenging course!

Not far from Grange-Over-Sands is another great course at Grange Fell. This club boasts the best views in South Lakeland, and it’s hard to argue with.

Kirkby Lonsdale is bookended by two fantastic courses in the 9-hole Casterton Golf Club – which also offers Footgolf – and the 72-par Kirkby Lonsdale Golf Club, both of which make the most of the Lune Valley’s stunning scenery.

Also of note with fantastic coastal views – and easy to reach via the M6 – is the beautiful parkland course of Heysham Golf Club.
