The Lake District is a wonderful destination filled with adventure and things for for kids to do. If you’re enjoying a stay in your holiday home at Hawthorns Park and you’ve brought the kids or grandchildren along – there are many options for days out and memorable experiences.
There’s a variety child of friendly attractions to choose from near our holiday park. These range from the more adventurous to the much more relaxing ways of enjoying the Lake District. Here’s some of our favourite activities for kids in the Lake District…
Go Ape Grizedale
Grizedale Forest
Go Ape Grizedale benefits from a stunning forest location to offer a range of experiences. This top outdoor attraction is home to five different activities – each one equally impressive. A choice of treetop high rope challenges and zip trekking adventures cater for all ages and abilities.

The World of Beatrix Potter

Delve back in time and appreciate the magic of one of the Lake District’s most famous writers at The World of Beatrix Potter. The charming family attraction brings the magic of the stories and life of Beatrix Potter in the beautiful surroundings of the Lakes.
The kids will love seeing all of their favourite characters from the famous books come to life. The attraction has a magical feel as you step inside the world of characters as Peter Rabbit and Mrs Tiggy-winkle. Pick up an activity sheet on arrival and make your around a fascinating interactive experience. Complete the visit with a look around the gift shop and a bite to eat in the café. It’s not just little ones that will find enjoyment here, this attraction is great fun for all generations.

Lakes Aquarium
Ulverston
If you’re looking for things to do with the kids in The Lake District, Lakes Aquarium is a great option. Home to hundreds of amazing creatures from around the Lake District as well as more exotic species from around the world. Enjoy a showcase of amazing local sea creatures such as Pike, Artic Char and Thornback Ray. From further afield see a range of mammals, retiles and amphibians including otters and frogs.
One of the best features of the aquarium is an underwater tunnel which gives recreates Windermere lake bed. The Morecambe Bay displays which include British sharks are also not to be missed. Children will love testing their knowledge with the quiz trail and listening to the various talks put on by the team.

A day trip with Windermere Lake Cruises is the perfect relaxing experience for all the family. Begin your voyage and sit back to enjoy the spectacular lakeland scenery.
A variety of packages are available and set off from different sections of the lake. There’s short and sweet 45 minute trips to much longer cruises where you can really take in the wealth of landmarks and local stops.

Ambleside Climbing Wall is perfect if you’re a family looking for active things to do in the Lake District. Experienced and fully qualified instructors are on hand to guide visitors through the basics of climbing.
Taster Sessions are offered for ages over 5’s (kids under 12, need to have an Adult on the session with them taking part). Private Sessions for all ages are also available (no adult supervision is needed for this).

Lakeland Maze Farm Park
Kendal
Lakeland Maze Farm Park offers acres of farmyard fun for all the family. The award-winning Maize Maze will provide the perfect chance for kids to let off steam. The attraction is also a working farm with plenty of cute animals to see, including donkeys, ponies and ferrets!
The fun doesn’t stop there either, if the family is feeling active there is plenty going to keep entertained. Have a great time jumping on trampolines, have a go-kart race or take a ride on a tractor. If the weather’s not so good there’s indoor soft play, pedal-powered cars and more animals to see!
