In the spotlight: Happy Mount Park, Morecambe

Around a 10-minute drive from Hawthorn Caravan Park you’ll stumble upon the seaside town of Morecambe. Peppered with nostalgia you’ll be able to explore the promenade, beach and even visit the Eric Morecambe statue too. If you’ve got the little ones with you then be sure to take a visit to Happy Mount Park, the area’s free to enter family attraction built in the 1920s that’s ideal for a great day out.

Back to nature

Happy Mount Park is bursting with natural trails and woodland walks for children (and adults) to explore. Wonderfully peaceful no matter the time of year, the pathways are perfect for a relaxing stroll, wildlife spotting and discovering the trees that were originally planted during the landscaping of the 1920s. You’ll also be able to walk around the oriental gardens and find out more about the exotic plants that are housed there.

If the kids have got plenty of energy to run off then make sure you take them to the natural adventure playground. With imaginative and creative play encouraged, they’ll enjoy making dens, swinging on the rope swing and even have a few goes on the 34m zip wire too.

Walk the plank!

Inside the park you’ll find a large indoor play area that’s designed for children up to the age of 10. With a fun pirate theme, your little buccaneers can play on climbing frames, dive into ball pits and bounce on the inflatable pirate’s galleon! There’s a smaller separate play area for babies and toddlers to enjoy the soft play too. There’s a £1.50 charge for every half an hour at the pirate soft play, but it’s open seven days a week and could be a good option if the unpredictable weather turns.

Family competitions

No family fun day out is complete without a little competitiveness and Happy Mount Park has got it all. There’s an 18-hole putting green adventure golf and even a bowling green if you’re looking for something a little more relaxed. The adventure golf takes around 40 minutes to complete and is best suited to children over the age of five. It tests players’ skills with faux bunkers and obstacles to get around without having to get your feet muddy. You’ll also find a multipurpose pitch that’s great for five a-side football, roller hockey, tennis and even basketball.

Cool down in the splash park

During the warm weather there’s nothing better than taking the time to cool down in the splash park. With interactive sprinklers and water jets, the kids will love the brightly coloured attraction and will run around for hours. The splash park has been built on an outdoor play surface so it’s safe for little ones to walk on and is also wheelchair accessible too. Watch out for the hidden gems such as the cannons and water arch spray as your little ones are bound to want to get you soaked too!

Eat. Rest. Repeat at Happy Mount Park

With so much to do in Happy Mount Park, you’ll most likely want to take advantage of some good grub and the Rastelli café is a family run establishment that serves quality home-cooked delights and traditional Italian food. Take advantage of the patio if the weather is nice or ask for the food to go so you can discover your own private picnic spot in the park. Make sure you finish your meal with some delicious cake or Lewis ice cream before you’re off exploring the Happy Mount once again.

There’s plenty to do at Happy Mount Park and you might find yourself heading back there a few times during your stay. You’re also welcome to take the dog along, although in certain areas they’ll need to be kept on the lead and they’re not allowed in the splash park. So, pack your swimmers and get ready for adventure, Happy Mount Park awaits!
