We’re approaching the end of another year which means the return of all of our favourite festive events. From bonfire nights to food markets and Christmas lights switch ons, Lancaster and the Lake District has a great selection of events to choose from. Here’s a pick of some of the best events in Lancaster and the Lakes well worth a visit this month.

Light up Lancaster
5th – 6th November

Held on the first weekend of November, Light Up Lancaster is a family-friendly trail and illumination of the city centre. The celebration of light has performances and projections on well-known buildings as well as spectacular fireworks. If you’re in the area, wrap up warm with all the family for this winter wonderland.

Carlisle Beer Festival
29th October – 7th November

If you like to sample the local ales you’ll love the Carlisle Beer Festival. A chance to take an ‘ale trail’ and explore Carlisle city centre via its excellent range of pubs. The establishments join forces to showcase some of the finest cask ales from the region and beyond.

Blackwell Christmas Craft Fair
13th November

A wonderful arts & craft fair located at Bowness-on-Windemere. Start your Christmas shopping and support local craft makers in the process. Find gift inspiration in all shapes and sizes, you’re sure to find some unique stocking fillers here!

10:00am – 4pm, £6 Addult, £5 Student, £3 Child (under 15), Children under 4 is free entry.

Holker Winter Markets
5th, 6th & 7th November

A superb three winter event taking place at Grange-over-Sands this winter. Take the family and enjoy a wander through the artisan food and local craft sellers. Like many events that had to cancelled in 2020, Holker Winter Markets makes a welcome, with the promise of being bigger and better than before!

Open 10.00am-4.00pm daily, tickets are £5pp (includes entry, parking, entertainment and entry into the Gardens. Children under 16 go free.

 

Kendal Mountain Festival
18th – 21st November

A four day festival to celebrate, inspire and share stories of all-things associated with outdoor adventure. Set in the market town of Kendal, the festival features guest speaker, films, music and much more!

Barrow Christmas Lights Switch-On
20th November

By mid-November why not get into the festive spirit and attend a Christmas lights switch-on. The community event at Barrow-in-Furness plays host to a variety of fantastic performances on the live stage.

12pm – 6pm – entry is free!

Ulverston Dickensian Festival

27th – 28th November

Get into period costume and travel back in time for the Ulverston Dickensian Festival. The unique festival has been running for over 20 years and an ever popular community event. It’s great to wander around and soak up the atmosphere in the traditntal market town of Ulverston in Cumbria.

Lancaster On Ice
27th November – 9th January

Lancaster on Ice is back in 2021! Get your skates for the 2021 season at the historic Dalton Square, in the heart of Lancaster. An ideal festive activity for couples, friends and families which is available through to 9th January.
