Beer Festivals in the Lake District

The Lake District plays host to a variety of beer festivals throughout the year, offering patrons the chance to sample a wide selection of quality ales and lagers. These festivals are great fun and often feature a range of live music performances and activities to keep the whole family entertained. Below we’ve listed some of our favourite beer festivals in the Lake District to enjoy whilst staying in your holiday home at Hawthorns Park. Northern Craft Beer Festival – March

The popular Northern Craft Beer Festivals takes place at Hawkshead Brewery twice a year. So, if you miss their March festival, be sure to head there in July! Here, you can enjoy a wide range of guest ales from across the region, as well as live music and children’s activities at the family-friendly festival. With the festival just over a 20-minute drive away, we highly recommend a visit!

Kirkby Beer & Music Festival – April

The Kirkby Beer and Music Festival is a fantastic weekend celebration of all the family, which offers free entry! Alongside the many beers to try, there will also be a good range of local ciders, too!

Keswick Beer Festival – June

Keswick Beer Festival is a popular Lake District event. Alongside offering a brilliant range of locally brewed beers and ciders from the surrounding areas, it’s also used as a great opportunity for fundraising. Money is raised for local charities as well as the Keswick area, too! 2023 is the 25th anniversary of the festival, and the organisers anticipate the event will be bigger and better than ever before.

Although Keswick is an hour’s drive from our base at Hawthorns, we think the drive is totally worth it! Find out more below.

Kendal Calling – July

Although this isn’t strictly a beer festival, its the Lake District’s largest event, and there will most certainly be a range of beers on offer here. Dubbed “The UK’s most picturesque festival” by the Daily Mirror, the 3-day fest at Lowther Deer Park will see many household names take to the stages. On offer this year are Kasabian, Royal Blood, Rick Ashley, Example, Nile Rodgers and much more.

Furness Beer Festival – August

Organised by the well-regarded Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA), the Furness Beer Festival is the place to be for beer aficionados! The annual Ulverston event sees a breadth of beers entered in categories, with various awards handed out at the end of the festival. You can also enjoy live music and some brilliant food options.

Grasmere Guzzler – September

The 13th annual Grasmere Guzzler is due to take place this September! Tweedies Bar & Lounge is a popular hotspot for live music. Visit the Guzzler for great tunes, food and even better beer, where an all round ‘hoppy’ time is guaranteed to be had by all!

Castle Green Beer Festival – October

Visit this autumn beer festival to celebrate the fantastic beers that have been brewed locally and are inspired by the Lakelands. Just 20-minutes away from us in Kendal, the the Castle Green Beer Festival will make a fantastic visit for those who are interested in beers and ales!
