What’s On in April?

The Lake District is always as busy as spring arrives in earnest, and 2016 is no exception. For our guests, then, we present our guide to some of the most interesting activities this month.

For the Foodies

Stock up on fantastic local produce at Milnthorpe Farmers’ Market (perfect for Spring picnics), Milnthorpe Square, Friday 8th April, 9:30-2:30pm

Kick back with some fine local craft beers and live classic rock and pop (think Michael Buble and Fleetwood Mac) at Alexander’s Beer Festival in Kendal, Function House, Castle Green Hotel, Kendal, Friday 8th – Saturday 9th April

The Kendal Made in Cumbria Farmers’ Market has been going since 1189, and is the oldest known market in Cumbria! Check out a piece of vibrant, living history at Kendal Market Place, Friday 29th April, 9:30-3;30pm

Music & Theatre

Immerse yourself in the complicated politics of Venice with Kendal Gilbert and Sullivan society (Kadgass) Present the Gondoliers (also known as The King of Barataria), Kendal Town Hall, Wednesday 6th – Saturday 9th April, 7:30pm

Enjoy a programme of (mostly) 20th century favourites from Levens Choir Concert in Cartmel, Cartmel Priory, Saturday 9th, 7:30pm

In the mood for some jazz? Kendal Jazz Club Gigs in Staveley, at the Hawkshead Brewery & Beer Hall, Tuesday 12th April, 8:00pm, has you covered!

If you enjoy the 1930’s aesthetic, and Shakespeare at his witty and comedic finest, Twelfth Night from Ulverston Outsiders is something you’ll need to check out! It’s at Coronation Hall, Ulverston, Tuesday 19th to Saturday 23rd April, 7:30pm – tickets are a bargain at £8 on Tuesdays, £10 other days!

With a huge variety of traditional and experimental ciders and ales, live music, gifts and unusual crafts, Kirkby Lonsdale Beer & Music Festival is worth a look! Kirkby Lonsdale RUFC, Friday 29th to Sunday 1st May
